FEELIN FLORAL

Thursday, July 30, 2015

When I was in middle school my dream in life was to be Audrey Hepburn. While my classmates were wearing low rise jeans and Von Dutch trucker hats, I was fixated on a-line skirts & sweater sets. Although my style has evolved considerably since the 8th grade, I still have a soft spot for a super ladylike look. I love the ladies who lunch vibe of this floral Milly dress, I basically feel like I could jet off to a London tee at any moment. I am completely in love with Milly's fall collection featuring the same classic silhouettes but in edgier colors and patterns. A perfect combo if you ask me!

BEAT THE SWIM WEEK HEAT - PART TWO

Wednesday, July 29, 2015

When planning my looks for Swim Week in Miami I not only wanted hairstyles (see my 'heidi braids' post here) that would beat the heat, but also a makeup routine that would be melt proof and stay flawless. Let's just call it out - I am a sweaty person, and the Florida humidity in July does not help matters...the struggle gets real people. So, short of Scotchgarding my entire face, I require make up with some serious staying power preferably of the straight up waterproof variety. The whole Bobbi Brown long wear collection is perfect for me, I especially love the perfectly definitely brow pencil (gotta keep those brows on fleek), & cream shadow stick in Surf & Sand (which never get that gross crease half way through the day like other shadows praise hands emoji).

In general I try to keep it light by skipping heavy creams or foundations, and wearing a tinted moisturizer like this one from bareMinerals. Don't forget there are also products that actually benefit from the heat like this cream blush & highlighting 'on the glow' stick by Wander Beauty (a new cult favorite). I like to buff all three into my face with my trusty beauty blender, and then add some waterproof bronzer. I set my make up with a few spritz of Caudalie beauty elixer and make sure to keep the travel size in my purse to keep my skin refreshed and hydrated throughout the day (*pro tip - leave in the refrigerator for an extra cooling effect). At the end of each day I used CLEANSE by Lauren Napier cloths combined with this Bobbi Brown instant long-wear makeup remover to make sure that my canvas was fresh and ready for the next day of Swim Week :)

BEAT THE SWIM WEEK HEAT - PART ONE

Tuesday, July 28, 2015

As I have mentioned before, the Miami heat and humidity can be quite miserable during Swim Week.  Keeping that in mind I made sure to gather a ton of up-do hair inspiration on my Pinterest for the TRESemme team. I loved these heidi braids so much that I actually kept them for two outfits (see the other one here). Two things I think are important to note for achieving a similar look: First - she did a very subtle zigzag along my natural part, which I think made the look less severe. Second - instead of just braiding the pigtails and pinning them in across my head, she actually did dutch french braids halfway up & then pinned. This definitely gave the braids durability and staying power.
